Bishop John Bryson Chane Scholarship for Social Justice

The Bishop John Bryson Chane Scholarship for Social Justice was established by the ECW Board in 2011 in honor of the work of Bishop John Bryson Chane. Grants are awarded yearly to graduating seniors who are members of churches in the Diocese of Washington and have an interest in social justice. The deadline for applications is May 31st.

The 2025 recipients are Ian Arthur Gray from St. John's, Olney and Arden Luckett from St. Columba's in Washington, DC. Ian Arthur graduated from Poolesville Magnet High School and will be attending William and Mary in the Fall, majoring in Political Science and Communications. Arden graduated from Jackson-Reed High School and will be going to the University of Colorado in Boulder, majoring in Biology.

The ECW Board plans to award a scholarship of $1500 each to a student from each of the eight regions of the Diocese of Washington.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To apply for the Bishop Chane Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Students must be active members of an Episcopal church within one of the eight regions of the Diocese of Washington.
Demonstrate a commitment to social justice.
Have plans to attend college the fall after their graduation.

Applications may also be mailed to ECW-EDOW.  Applications must be postmarked  by May 31st or submitted online by 11:59pm on May 31st to be considered.

APPLICATION SUPPORTING MATERIALS

A transcript showing a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0., 
reference letter from the student's rector and a school administrator or counselor must also be submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to the address below.
