The Bishop John Bryson Chane Scholarship for Social Justice was established by the Episcopal Church Women’s Board to recognize Episcopal graduating high school seniors in the Diocese of Washington who have shown an interest in social justice issues.
Applications must be received by May 31st. One scholarship will be awarded for each of the regions of the Diocese of Washington. Awardees will be notified by June 30th. Amount of awards may vary, based on the availability of funds. All awards are paid and mailed directly to each college or university.

Minimum Requirements – Student must be:
- An active member of an Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington (Rector’s recommendation required).
- A resident of the District of Columbia, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, or St. Mary’s County.
- A graduating high school senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Accepted for full time enrollment in an accredited junior or community college or an accredited four-year college or university.
HOW TO APPLY
A student must submit the following documents for consideration by The Scholarship Committee:
- A school transcript demonstrating academic achievement (unofficial transcript ok).
- Two letters of recommendation - one from Rector and one from either a school administrator or counselor (sealed envelope or direct email.)
- A statement of educational goals and career objectives (not to exceed 300 words).
- A brief essay of 300 words on one social justice issue that is important to you.
