Due to the the recent pandemic, it has been determined at a national level, that there will not be a Spring Ingathering for UTO this year. Instead, we need to remain vigilant in staying safe, protecting our health and the health of our loved ones, and considering others less fortunate than ourselves. If you have a Blue Box, or any small container, add your blessings to it every day, rather than coins. We continued to be blessed in so many ways. Can you help a neighbor who is a shut-in at home? Can you provide food for a food drive or pantry. Can you pray with an open heart for a person in distress or someone grieving? Can you foster an animal? Think of ways to share your love and gratitude, and hopefully in the fall we can rejoin our brothers and sisters in Christ in our sorely missed houses of prayer, our beloved churches.
One can give thanks by dropping coins each day into the Blue UTO Box. Many people keep the box in plain sight as a reminder to quicken their awareness of daily blessings. Each year individual offerings are united in great thanks, and then assigned to grant requests from all over the world. These grants enhance mission and ministry and alleviate compelling human needs.
UTO is an integral arm of the mission work of the Episcopal Church. A parish's United Thank Offering ingathering may be held twice a year, usually in the Spring and Fall. The Diocesan alms basin and stole may be borrowed for use during your parish ingathering collection and celebration by signing up for a specific date ahead of time. Please contact Mathy Milling Downing, UTO Coordinator, to set this up. Parishes should use the form below to submit their donations to the Diocese no later than December 15th in order to be considered as a donation for that year. All donations are then forwarded to the National UTO for grant awards.
UTO materials, such as the blue offering boxes, envelopes, handbooks, etc., may be ordered online here at a minimal or no cost. UTO Materials are available in English. They are currently updating the Spanish materials. For additional information and/or to request specific UTO training, please contact Mathy Downing, UTO Coordinator, at (301) 938-8089 or email her at [email protected].
UTO Grant Applications are made available after October 1st yearly and are due on the second Friday in December. The theme of the United Thank Offering for 2019 was, "Go: Crossing boundries created by race, culture, and economics to create communities that listen deeply and learn to live like Jesus." Accepted and approved grants will be awarded in June 2020.
The 2018 theme of the United Thank Offering was "Gratitude with Attitude". In response to this calling, each church participating in the 2018 Annual General Meeting was asked to thoughtfully submit a prayer of thanksgiving and gratitude when stepping forward to present their symbolic offerings into the alms basin. The prayers for each congregation were then collected and created into a Book of Thanksgiving. The prayers were so heartfelt and full of love and gratitude that we wished to share them with everyone. Perhaps these prayers will promote your own additional offerings of Thanksgiving, or give deeper thought as to what others have already shared. Each parish that participated is listed in the document below with their congregational blessings. We thank everyone for their response to this new endeavor. We hope to continue this new tradition at each Annual General Meeting. Such wondrous gratitude for all that we have and all that we are, Sisters in Christ.
